Eyelash extensions

As Austin’s premier lash bar, Blink specializes in a revolutionary semi-permanent eyelash extension service that extends your natural lashes and draws attention to your eyes. Our extensions give you longer, thicker, more natural-looking lashes.

It all starts with a custom consultation with one of our expert stylists who will recommend the best lash style for your needs — whether it’s volume, synthetic or Hybrid lash extensions, we have you covered.

New Eyelash Extension Clients

We’re looking forward to seeing you at one of our two Austin locations soon. To make your first trip to Blink that much more enjoyable, we’ve included a few quick notes.

  • New clients should arrive ten minutes before their appointment to allow time to fill out paperwork.
  • Arriving eye makeup free is best, but we can provide you with makeup remover if necessary. Please allow time before your appointment to remove makeup.
  • For maximum retention, it is best not to get the lashes wet for 24 hours so please shower or workout before you come to your appointment.
  • Clients with no current existing lash extensions will need a full set on their first visit, which will take approximately two hours.
  • Clients transferring from other lash studios should first book a 90-minute appointment that includes a consultation and a review for any changes or corrections. After the first appointment, clients may book 60-minute appointments.

FAQ's

What are eyelash extensions?

For the client, the process is easy. Lay down, close your eyes and relax while we do all of the work. One of our talented stylists will apply extensions to the client’s individual lash which will enhance the curl, length and volume of their natural lashes.

What is the difference between synthetic and mink lashes?

Classic synthetic lashes can look natural or dramatic and work well for most clients.

Blink’s mink eyelashes are made from real mink fur and will have a wispier look compared to the synthetic lashes. Mink lashes are perfect for clients with very fine or sparse natural lashes, or for clients that want a very full look or are interested in lashes for a special event.

Volume lashes are also finer than synthetic lashes. Several lashes are positioned in a fan shape and then applied to a single lash for maximum volume.

What do eyelash extensions look like when applied?

With proper application, lash extensions feel completely natural and can achieve anywhere from an “everyday mascara” look to a more dramatic look.

How long will a set of extensions last?

When applied properly, extensions will last the length of your natural lash growth cycle. Retention can vary based on lifestyle, but generally fills are required every two to four weeks.

How often will I need a Lash Fill?

You shed your natural eyelashes every 60-120 days based on the growth cycle and when a natural lash is shed, the extension is shed with it. A fill is needed to replace any lashes that have fallen out. Fills will vary by individual and depend on your natural eyelash cycle, as well as how well you care for your lash extensions. On average, fills are needed between 2-4 weeks. During a fill, you should have at least 50% of your lash extensions still attached. If you wait too long many of your extensions will fall off and you will need to have the full set reapplied.

Can I apply mascara to my extensions?

Extensions give the illusion of wearing mascara, so wearing mascara is not necessary. Mascara will shorten the life of your extensions so it’s recommended that you avoid it completely. However, if mascara is worn, it can only be water-based mascara. Do not use oil-based or waterproof mascara. Waterproof or any type of oil-based mascara will dissolve the bonding agent and shorten the life of your extensions causing them to fall out sooner. Additionally, we recommend that you only use a water-based eye makeup remover.

Can I swim, shower, exercise or visit a spa while wearing my extensions?

Yes! The bonding agent we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise and do anything else you would normally do. Special care is required but overall maintenance is low.

(Note: We recommend that you do not wash your eye area for the first 24 hours after each application. Clients who regularly do hot yoga or visit steam rooms may require fills more frequently than others.)

How do I take care of my new eyelash extensions?

  • Do not wet lashes for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid hot steam or saunas for 48 hours.
  • Avoid running water directly on your lashes. Showering with your back to the water is best.
  • Do not rub your eyes.
  • Avoid using mascara and only use water-based mascara when absolutely necessary.
  • If applying mascara, do so from middle to tip. Avoid the root area.
  • Use a water-based eye makeup remover.
  • Do not perm your lashes.
  • Do not use an eyelash curler.
  • Do not pull on your lashes. This may cause your natural lashes to come out prematurely.

Is this treatment FDA approved? Is it safe?

The FDA does not currently regulate eyelash extensions since the extensions are applied to the natural eyelashes and do not touch the skin. The application process is pain-free and so relaxing that most clients fall asleep during the procedure.

How long will it take to apply the extensions? How is it done?

The initial application process for lash extensions takes approximately two hours. The application process involves lying comfortably on a massage or facial table with your eyes closed. The eyelash professional will then apply an under eye pad to cover your lower lashes and upper lids. The extensions will then be applied to each individual eyelash on a lash-by-lash basis.

How do I choose the look I want?

Eyelash extensions are available in a number of lengths and thicknesses. We consult with clients before any procedure to learn about the style they are interested in, their lifestyle, and to make recommendations based on their natural lashes. Each person’s lashes will vary in strength and length. We do not count lashes, but apply as many as possible during your appointment.

Lash lift & Tint

A lash lift is like a perm for your lashes — without chemicals like parabens or formaldehyde. It uplifts and curls lashes from the base, making them stand out and look longer. Blink’s lash lift includes a tinting service to enhance the lash’s new curl and define the effect.

Microblading

Before you arrive, we’ll need you to fill out a quick release. The form can be downloaded here and completed before your first visit.

What To Expect

After your microblading service, your new temporary eyebrow will go through several phases of healing.

The pigment will appear very sharp and dark immediately after the procedure. This is because the pigment is still sitting on top of your skin, and has not yet settled in completely. The color of the pigment will soften gradually over time. Do not be alarmed if you see some pigment on the cotton swab, as this is excess pigment and/or body fluid that is naturally leaving the skin.

For the first 10 days after the procedure, before showering, always apply a layer of post- care cream to protect your eyebrows from moisture, and during the shower, keep your face away from the shower head.

Once the healing of the skin starts taking place during the first seven days after your procedure, it will look like dandruff flakes or dry skin, and it may itch. This might give you the impression that the color pigment is fading too quickly, however, this is normal and is superficial color and the very top layer skin being naturally removed from your eyebrows. Experience has shown that by following the after-care instructions, these symptoms may quickly disappear.

Once your eyebrows are completely healed, usually around 2 weeks, apply a layer of sunscreen SPF 30 up to SPF 50 on your eyebrows when exposed to the sun. Sun exposure can cause the color pigment to fade away more quickly.

The healing of deeper wounds might last between 14-21 days. Touch-ups and/or correction of the shape-design is recommended only after this period.

Microblading After Care

It is essential that you follow these instructions after your microblading session.

Day One

Wait 1-2 hours and let the wounds weep lymph. After 2 hours wipe off the lymph with a moistened cotton pad and apply a thin layer of Aquaphor or similar with a cotton swab. Do this every hour on the hour until bed.

At night, wash the treated area with warm water and mild soap like Cetaphil. Wash your hands with a disinfectant soap before washing your eyebrows and/or applying the post-care cream.

NOTE: Too much Aquaphor will cause the pigment to scab and fade quicker.

Days Two — Nine

Wipe brows at least twice a day. At night, wash the treated area with warm water and mild soap like Cetaphil. Wash your hands with a disinfectant soap before washing your eyebrows and/or applying the post-care cream.

The following must be avoided during all nine days post-microblading procedure:

  • Sweating. It is recommended not to sweat for the first 10 days after the procedure. Sweat is salt and can prematurely fade the treated area.
  • Practicing sports
  • Swimming
  • Hot sauna or hot baths
  • Sun tanning or salon tanning. Absolutely no sun, sweating, or tanning prior to or after the procedure for 2 weeks. Do not have a tan/sunburn on your face prior to your procedure. The tan will exfoliate taking color with it as it fades.
  • Any laser or chemical treatments or peelings, and/or any creams containing Retin-A or Glycolic Acid on the face or neck
  • Picking, peeling or scratching of the micro pigmented area in order to avoid scarring of the area or removal of the pigment
  • Performing tasks related to heavy household cleaning such as garage or basement cleaning where there is a lot of airborne debris
  • Spicy foods
  • Smoking
  • Drinking alcohol in excess, as it may lead to slow healing of wounds
  • Driving in open-air vehicles (convertibles, boats, bicycles, motorcycles)
  • Touching the eyebrow area except for when rinsing and applying the post-care cream with a cotton swab

If you have any unexpected problems with the healing of the skin or any questions after your treatment, feel free to contact Blink Beauty at 512-474-7676 at any time.
